February 27, 2006

Portia needs to speak to the section leaders on Monday evening.

A BIG thank you to Lefty Phillips for the Practice CDs.   It’s a labor of love and so helpful to have these CDs to practice in the car or at home!  Here’s a note from Lefty:  “I accidentally omitted two entire bars in the 'Confitebor' movement of the Mozart. These are on p. 19, bottom score, last two measures, ATB chorus.  I didn't read carefully enough and thought those were solo parts.  Sorry!  Also, I want to make clear that I made a CD (or tape as requested) for EVERY SINGLE MEMBER of Soli.  If it's valuable to you and you can afford it, put a fiver in the kitty. But regardless, please take one home if you haven't already. I don't want them sitting around going to waste!"

March 6th:  Sandwich supper (5:30 pm) and annual board meeting (6:00 pm) for all members of Soli.  Please sign up TONIGHT (last chance) for your choice of sandwich (Club, Turkey, or Veggie). The cost will be $3.00 per person for those members who eat. Please plan to attend - we need your input and Board elections will be held! And speaking of elections, please speak with Portia if you would like your name placed on the ballot for the Board elections next week.

Mike from Pulpit Rock sends his apology for the mix-up last Monday.  For those who came and then got sent home, don’t worry, it won’t count as an absence.  For those who stayed, thanks for braving the cold and darkness.  We had a good practice, even if it was a bit shorter than usual.

March 20th: The Craft and Bake sale will be held during the break. Please bring your items to sell and participate in buying some goodies! There will also be some brand new Tupperware (that was donated to us) on sale that night.

We’re looking for two more appointees to the Soli Board. We need your help – would you consider giving a bit of your time to help Soli?  We especially need someone who has fund-raising experience or a willingness to coordinate our fund-raising activities.  Board meetings are usually the first Monday of the month at 6 PM.

Performance Attire

Women--If you need to order a dress, you may try on different sizes on Monday, Jan. 30th. The dresses are $56.18 and the 16" pearls are $5.30.  The total is $61.48. If you need a tall size it will be $3.18 more. If anyone knows of someone that would like to sell their dress, please contact Sandy Kay Hittle at 594-4620.

Men--You may get the things you need (wing-tipped shirt, bow tie, cummerbund, & cufflinks) from Mr. Neat at the Citadel. Be sure to say that you are with Soli Deo Gloria. The total should be $40.26.

Start thinking about who you might ask to advertise in our Spring concert program.  Remember these ads help defray the cost of printing the program!

January 16, 2006

Welcome to our new and returning members!  We are so happy to see you, and exciting to be singing together!

If you are considering joining Soli Deo Gloria, please check out your music at the beginning of rehearsal, and return it at the end of rehearsal each time.  Once you've purchased your music, you are welcome to keep it and mark it as desired.

For all members, please remember to be silent while our director or other members are speaking to the group or asking questions.  This is particularly important when a section is being rehearsed as well.  Our practice venue picks up whispers, and bounces the sound around the room, making it difficult for others to hear.  Your courtesy is appreciated.  Also, if you are thirsty, please bring only water into the main hall, and make sure it's covered securely.  Our refreshments team usually has other beverages in the hallway during break.

We'll have information on performance attire for new members at a future rehearsal, and will have dresses for ladies to try on before ordering.

PLEASE consider if you can help with chair setup for rehearsals.  This is an important job, and takes real effort, but many hands make light work.  (Soli runs on the generosity of its volunteers.)

Again, welcome back!
Portia Angelica Johnson,
Soli President
