First Batch of Rehearsal Files Available for Downloading |
|
 |
Seven of this semester's pieces are now on the SkyDrive site and available for your use. (See the link below.)
Brad and I spent several hours last week working on tempos and dynamics for the ensemble versions, so please take advantage of them. As usual, there is file for each individual voice part as well, but there are no dynamics in these -they are just for note learning.
The software I use, SONAR, is primarily a recording program rather than a composition program, like Sibelius. As such, the mechanisms to create dynamic changes are clumsy, at best. You may notice that the quieter sections of some pieces lose a lot of 'life'. They almost sound like a pillow is over the speaker.
This is a function of the program, and I haven't found a way around it. When a spare 800 bucks floats around the house, I'll grab it and get a copy of Sibelius. But for now, this is what we have. It still provides clear, basic instruction for soft and loud sections. The responsibility for the greater subtleties of crescendos and decrescendos still rests with us, the performers.

Instructions for Downloading |
|
 |
1. Click the link in the box above. This takes you to the page containing all the folders for this semester's files. (Some folders may be empty.)
2. Click on the song title you want. This opens the folder. A list will appear. Click on your voice part or the ensemble version.
3. An icon appears with a blue musical note in it. This is the file. Check the title in the pink strip above it to make sure it is the one you want.
4. Click the word 'Download' above the icon. A box will appear asking if you want to open or save the file. Choose save.
5. A box will appear to ask you where you'd like the file saved. I always make a folder marked 'Soli_semester_year' on my desktop, and save them to that location.
! THERE IS NO BATCH DOWNLOAD FUNCTION !
(I know, I know - it's pain to have to download one file at a time. Kindly direct your remarks to whatever megacorp runs SkyDrive. I'd like to see it changed, too.)
